The Chinese city Shenzhen is the first city in China to be completely covered by the 5G network using the “independent networking” method, said the mayor of the city, Chen Rugui.
Chen said at the press conference that the city has finished with the set goal from 2019. The goal was to build 45,000 5G base stations by the end of August 2020, to fully ensure the establishment of a 5G city network.
The city of Shenzhen currently has more than 46,000 5G base stations, which is the density of stations believed to be the highest in the world, the city’s Industry and Information Technology Service said, according to the Global Times.
The next step is to encourage the development of the 5G industry so that a complete 5G ecosystem will be built and a breakthrough in 5G technologies will be achieved. Shenzhen is the technology center of China, and is located in the south of the Chinese province of Guangdong, where many Chinese start-up companies and technology giants such as Huawei and Tencent are located.
