Students in a school in the Austrian town of Kaindorf an der Sulm, instead of a principal or teacher, were awarded a diploma on completion of schooling by a robot.
Due to the coronavirus and measures to keep a distance of at least one meter, the HTL school in Austria has decided to devise an innovative way to award diplomas.
School principal Gunter Schweigler said that since handing over the diploma “from hand to hand” seemed dangerous, at the award ceremony, as it is a technical school, the diplomas were handed out by a robot. The teacher only had to press a button during the delivery and the robot’s hand handed over the diploma.
The robot, that is, the robotic arm, was programmed into the students themselves. “We have one robot in the automated technology department. Our students programmed the movements and speed of his arm, ”the principal explained.
